Revisional bariatric surgery is a bariatric surgical procedure that follows on from a previous bariatric surgery done in the past. For example, a patient who has had a gastric band in the past and ends up reg gaining their lost weight and having to have further surgery to help with weight loss for any medical conditions that arise.
These are complex surgical procedures and require a certain level of expertise and surgical finesse.
A full pre-operative assessment needs to be done beforehand to determine the eligibility of the patient for revisional bariatric surgery. This involves blood tests as well as scans to determine the anatomical changes that have taken place inside the gastrointestinal system as a result of the previous bariatric surgery performed. Then each case is assessed on its own merit by Dr Sherif Hakky in his clinic.
Revisional surgeries can also be performed as an emergency to salvage a bariatric surgical procedure gone wrong and Dr Hakky quite commonly receives these referrals to help with a complication that has arisen from a bariatric surgical procedure performed elsewhere.
